It is not what one says, but rather what one does, that makes all the difference in the world.

About the JCEFNM

The Jewish Community Endowment Foundation of New Mexico (Foundation) is a community resource that helps you create and fulfill your philanthropic vision and sustain your values. The Foundation was established in 1997 as a division of the Jewish Federation of Greater Albuquerque (currently Jewish Federation of New Mexico (Federation), a 501 (c)3 nonprofit corporation.)

Existing funds were aggregated into a General Fund and donor designations were segregated for specific purposes. The Federation General Fund currently holds two endowed funds and four non-endowed funds. In addition, the Foundation holds six organization funds, eleven donor-advised endowed funds and four donor advised funds. JCEFNM's total assets under management as of 9/30/13 are $2,179,578.

In December 2005, after evaluating options related to building our community's endowment base, the Foundation entered into a Custodial Agreement with the Jewish Community Foundation of Southern Arizona (JCFSA), an Arizona nonprofit corporation with a solid record of investment performance and donor-centered services. The General Fund of the Foundation and subsequent donor designated funds were transferred to JCFSA to be invested with $50.3 million of their assets currently under management. In addition, the Agreement provides for consulting services and assistance in executing planned gifts for the benefit of the New Mexico community and Jewish communities around the world. The Foundation receives quarterly non-audited fund status reports and an annual audited report of JCFSA accounts. For these services, JCFSA receives a fee associated with the costs directly related to investing and reinvesting the foundation's assets and a small administrative fee. The Foundation Board believes the guidance, mentorship and expertise provided by JCFSA is invaluable.

The Foundation introduced the endowment Book of Life in 2005 to encourage community members to create their Jewish legacy. The Book of Life is on display under beautiful wooden arches in the Jewish Community Center lobby.

Mission & Vision

The mission of the Jewish Community Endowment Foundation of NM is to:

  • Effectively promote the concept of planned charitable giving
  • Establish itself, by excellence of service to donors and management performance, as an institution of choice for those interested in planned giving
  • Work cooperatively with other organizations to help them encourage increased giving among their own constituencies, and to serve as effective stewards of these funds, if desired, by such organizations
  • Distribute fund income to meet community needs in a manner that is generally consistent with the principles and purposes of the donor and the Jewish Federation of New Mexico

It is our vision to promote legacy giving by passing our values and valuables — Dor L' Dor — from one generation to the next. We want to help ensure the long-term stability and vibrancy of our Jewish community by building future endowments for community organizations.
